I’m Kate O. Welcome to my blog.

This is my space to write about anything and everything going on in my life: my plots, schemes, commentary, complaints, daydreams, goals, and occasional witticisms. Yes, it’s annoyingly self-involved, but that’s what blogs are. I’m a big believer in the power of writing as a tool of discovery, and I am still trying to learn what I can about myself and the world around me. I am also a big believer in posting photographs of my cute dog, so there’s that, too.

I spent my graduate school years in Eugene, Oregon, which I miss dearly every day. I currently live in Auburn, Alabama, where I teach college English. After over three five years here, I have finally adjusted to the hot, humid weather and the sad lack of snow, and have even become a fan of college football. Life is full of surprises.

I’m a runner (and occasional triathlete), a vegetarian (mostly a vegan), and an amateur photographer. You can expect to read quite a bit about my sporting and cooking endeavors and see plenty of pictures here. I also like to write about whichever movies, TV shows, books, and music are currently captivating me and to wax on about life as I’m living it. My favorite things include: coffee; whiskey; postmodern fiction; baking bread; detective stories; light drizzly rain; French fries; rocky coastlines; winter; the soft, warm ears and sad eyes of a hound dog; going to bed early to read; and getting up early to run before the world wakes up.
